blog: favourites

A selection of blog posts, essays, and other written things I've found on the net that I found interesting (written by other amazing people).

sdomi: .arpa, rDNS and a few magical ICMP hacks

All of sdomi's blog posts are amazing, but this is one of my personal favourites.
ignore the not secure warning on this, you'll soon see why

bogdanthegeek: Hosting a WebSite on a Disposable Vape

Honestly I've long been tempted to replicate this project (and expand on it to serving a full web app on a cluster of vapes).

Chris Zacharias: A Conspiracy To Kill IE6

I always love reading into tech history and the dumb stuff that comes with it, this is one of those "ha that happened" moments.

Financial Times: The vulnerable teen drawn into far-right extremism online

A long read, and a hard one, about a difficult issue that's become increasingly common since the early/mid-2010's.

Orual: Fascist femboys, autogynephilia, and flattering narratives

A good summary of a lot of things I mention in passing but don't explain really well.

Soatok: The Tech Industry Doesn’t Understand Consent

Shorter read, but a good summary on my thoughts on user consent and Tumblr.

Joseph: How not to run an EGM: A case study of the Game Development Society

Such a well written, and comedically timed, piece from UNSW's independent student publication on how not to run a society.

Brent Simmons: Why NetNewsWire Is Not a Web App

One thing I often complain about is this seemingly Google-centric future where everything is "just in your web browser cause why would you need an app", this piece counters that well.

Cory Doctorow: You should be using an RSS reader

I'll admit I'm late to the RSS party, but after reading Cory Doctorow's amazing book on Enshittification I've become very motivated to work towards an open future. This piece is a good little summary of why open standards like RSS are needed.
